Sherlock Jr.
In regards to camera
angle, motion, and overall construction of the scenes in the film, I enjoyed the
part when Sherlock is running through the street when he then comes into contact
with a policeman on a bike that gives him a lift. From there it gets pretty entertaining. The shots that they got while he was
driving the bike were very impressive in my eyes. So now lets dissect how they went about these
scenes. The first we see of Sherlock he
is running from the bad guys in a long shot with a tracking motion backwards
while they have a shot of Jr. running at them. Then a side angle of the policeman
on a medium close up but it is fixed to his bike and the background doesn’t
match with the speed and motion of the bike. Then we are presented with an establishing
shot of the bad guys getting into their car so we can expect that they will be
the next people we see following Sherlock.
Back to Sherlock on the bike now, he is casually talking to the
policeman as they motor along running from the bad guys. Using a medium close up we can see that they
are still in front of a screen that’s playing a scene in the background with
the motor cycle still next to it. After
that we see a stationary shot of the two driving along through a puddle of
water that kicks off the policeman and leaves Sherlock to drive away from the
stranded man without knowing that he as just lost him. Then we cut to a medium close up of Sherlock
moving away from the fallen officer to him flying through traffic and a picnic. All of these shots of Sherlock
barreling through trafficker taken from a stationary point probably shot this
way to mimic what a bystander would be witnessing.
